- What did you create, and why?
I created the Student Goal Revisited Google Form as a follow up to the document where students along with their parents set goals for how they are planning on being successful in my class. This form makes students aware of techniques that will enable them to be successful in my class and helps them self assess their progress. The form also lets them know how well they are doing at utilizing these techniques. Students who do not come to my class with these skills already intrinsically embedded are reminded at different points throughout the year of what they are doing to help themselves be successful and what they can be doing to be more successful. At the end of the form students are given the opportunity to decide on which 3 techniques they feel will be most helpful to them in meet their academic goal in my class.
- What went well for you?
Everything. This is a new more efficient and effective format.
- What was challenging?
Figuring out how to start as it was new.
- What did you enjoy?
I will enjoy this if it is effective. Time will tell.
- What ideas do you have for using this tool with your students, grade level, staff or to communicate with families? Please see above.
This form provides a good starting point for students in terms of goal setting. You may have already planned to do this, but have you thought about creating another form that students can complete at the quarter and/or semester as a means of assessing their progress on the 3 goals they decided to focus on. Another reflective piece would be creating a grid question for each of the behavior options and have them identify their level of success on fulfilling those tasks.
